A letter from our founder, Loretta McGill
Dear members and foodie friends,
It has been a while since you have heard from me, that's because I hoped I'd be writing a different letter. After a lot of consideration, I have some news I wanted to share with you - I have decided to close down Let's Meet At.
I launched Let's Meet At two years ago to help people make new friends by connecting them through food. I am so proud that this mission was achieved through one-on-one connections via the platform and at our group dinners.
As with any ambitious plan, there is a huge amount of work that has to be done behind the scenes to keep a platform like Let's Meet At running. As sole founder, this has been a challenge and I have worked tirelessly to keep it going. I also searched for a co-founder for a long time and though I had people who were interested, they were not able to take on the time commitment required.
As many of you will already know, last year I was faced with a huge personal challenge, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer. This really took its toll on Let's Meet At as I wasn't able to keep up with what was required to maintain, and importantly grow the platform into what I dreamed it could be. Between surgery and six months of chemo, I struggled to keep Let's Meet At going.
I wrote in my message at the end of last year that I still had some big plans for the platform in 2018, and at that stage I did. For some, illness makes them push harder into their businesses, or go on to launch something meaningful. For me, when I got back after the holiday break, I decided the best thing was to prioritise my health above all else and simplified my life. I knew if Let's Meet At was to continue, grow and succeed, I wasn't the right person to make this happen.
I started to look for a buyer or someone to take over Let's Meet At. I didn't expect the amount of interest I got. Many of the businesses that wanted to buy Let's Meet At were also in the foodies space and purely wanted to buy Let's Meet At for its data - that's your personal information. This never sat well with me and I couldn't betray members, subscribers and followers like that. I finally found someone who really wanted to take it over, we were both really excited. Unfortunately, due to circumstances at their end, it wasn't going to be possible.
After spending the last three months looking for a solution and not finding a suitable one, I have decided to call last drinks. The platform will remain open until Friday, 20 April 2018. You still have time to hop on and make connections or make arrangements to meet up with people who you have been chatting to.
If you want to get in contact with me, feel free to email me directly here.
From the bottom of my heart, I truly want to thank you all for coming on the Let's Meet At journey and supporting me. I am proud of the wonderful community we built together.
